A Woman Is...

A Woman is...

I actually was so proud of this one when I finished it that I sent it to Gates McFadden. She wrote me back and said that she liked it. For a Trek crazy 20 year old, this was very exciting.

A Woman is...

A woman is
Proud and strong and true
A woman is
Soft and tender and who
Teaches the children of the world
A woman is
Love and kindess and hope
A woman is
Left with the seeds to sow
And grow the future with her care
A woman is
Blues and reds and violets
All colors in the painting
A woman is
A woman

She loves you when you're hurting
She shields you if you can
Her presence is your safe house
She's stronger than any man
In odds so great she should be daunted
She sets herself and plunges ahead
She works so hard her whole life through
She works and then she's dead
No thanks she gets besides a child's hug
Or a gentle kiss
And seldom in life does she get
A feeling of true bliss

In times of great pain she sheds no tear
Her face is one of stone
In times of great joy, the tears fall down
And you find a welcome home
How often can someone fall and not be broken
Ask her, she will know
And if you are truly lost and alone
She'll show you the way to go
You'll find a hand and the strength you need
She always has enough
And you'll discover that under that gentle voice
A woman is really tough

What does the word 'woman' mean
If it is not friend in times of need
When you need a hand to guide you
She steps out in the lead
Love and cherish the woman
Be you woman or man
Remember that not even a man
Can do the things a woman can

She has the children The seeds of tomorrow grow under her hand
She makes kind hearts grow
Out of useless sand

You are a woman
Hold your head up high
You are a woman
And even though you live and die
Your daughters carry on in the way you taught
With a spirit life will never daunt

She toils and she suffers and she takes it all in stride
Remember the seeds were watered withe the tears she cried
