Love Lost

This is the second poem I wrote. I wrote it in 1993, when I was in university.

Copyright, 1993.

Love Lost

To dance with you in the moonlight
To sing with you in the dark
To gently touch your fingers
To feel the beating of your heart
Memories of what used to be
Wash over what is left of me
And I remember.

Once the pale moonlight washed over us
Our love was full and complete
I gently touched your fingers
Your heart and mine together beat
Memories of what used to be
Wash over what is left of me
And I surrender.

The shadow touched the face I loved
The singing became silent
I barely salvaged my heart
Though not destroyed, it's cracked and bent
Memories of what used to be
Wash over what is left of me
And I bow under
My pain.

The tears I cry
Mingle and die
Do they travel the same path as the ones we love?
If they do, maybe they can
Bring my love to you.
