Lonliness

Stare out the window,
See nothing
The lonliness is there
Forever present
Pressing in on you
Bringing the darkness

People are there,
Surrounding you
They are friendly but non-existant
Just the blackness, the fear
That is real, all that is real

You scream, you pound
Louder than the beating of your own heart
Hide your head in shame
Caught in a weak moment--maybe a tear
Never if you can help it

A light
Comes closer
A hope shines through the fog
The lifeboat goes by
And you are left again in the dark
Alone.
